The Sage story begins with our parent company, Convergent Communications, a supplier of legacy communications platforms. Convergent had developed a comprehensive approach for the design, deployment and service of these PBX-type systems. In fact, the Convergent process and its team of technical experts have been hailed across the St. Louis region as among the best in the IT and communications field.

As early as 2003, Convergent began to anticipate a major and revolutionary market shift that was on the horizon. That shift was a movement away from traditional PBX, land-locked, proprietary systems and towards more open and free systems offered by VoIP. At that time, Convergent began assembling a team of VoIP experts who were tasked with developing an approach to VoIP design and deployment that was as comprehensive as the traditional system but completely different in the factors to be considered and the nearly endless line of options that could be integrated to solve a customer’s business need.

Because the approach and the disciplines required to create such a system were so revolutionary from the way Convergent operated in terms of its legacy business, 2007 saw the formation of a brand-new company strictly focused on VoIP/SIP-based voice and data solutions. At that time, Sage Innovations was born.

Consider the story of the Eagle Catcher, which has been adopted as our corporate philosophy on customer service and whose statue is proudly displayed at the entrance to our corporate headquarters. The Eagle Catcher depicted in our statue is an American-Indian catching a bald eagle for the purpose of borrowing a few of its feathers for his tribe’s ceremonial head dresses. Since the eagle was revered as a symbol of freedom, killing it was not allowed. Instead, the young warrior would tether a live rodent to himself as bait, then lie down on his back, cover himself with grass, and wait for the eagle to strike. At just the right moment, he would grab the eagle and pluck the coveted feathers, releasing him when the task was complete.

We hold this story dear because the young Eagle Catcher was IN SERVICE to his tribe, developing a creative solution to get the job done. It is this spirit of service and dedication that defines Sage’s commitment to our customers and the honor of being in service to another.
